The Padre Hotel

I booked this hotel as a splurge to celebrate my husband's birthday. I called the property ahead to verify that the suite I was booking had a separate living and bedroom and was told that it did. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the room was one large room, no walls. It was fine, but just not what I had in mind for this price. We were traveling with our family, and the lack of any privacy was a bummer. A large part of the room's total square footage is bathroom, and it is quite a grand bathroom. I was looking forward to a soak in the jetted tub, only to find out that the jets didn't work. One of the two elevators was also broken, so the remaining small elevator was painfully slow and busy. We took the stairs most of the time, all the way to the 7th floor. Another reason I booked this property was the rooftop bar, I thought that would be so fun for a birthday celebration. Again, closed. Overall, it is a nice hotel, but not at all what I thought I was getting for a special occasion. The staff was very friendly and helpful, this is no reflection on them. I just wished I had known upfront how many parts of the hotel were broken or closed before booking.

Very much enjoyed the stay here especially the retro decor. The room was very spacious and clean. Dinner was good breakfast was fairly good. The bar area was fun and lively, The cocktails were good as well

I was kind of hoping for great welcoming warm staff. Other than the Valet, we really didn't get that. The hostess could use some training in being more discreet. The room was nice, the elevator takes FOREVER.... Getting a discount at the bar/restaurants would have been a big perk

The whole facility was very well taken care of. Every staff member we interacted with was very polite, respectful and helpful. We ate at the restaurant, drank at the bar, and ate breakfast at the cafe. Everything was delicious and affordable.

We would have appreciated if the front desk staff pointed out that there is no bell hop service and bringing the luggage rack to your room is DIY, so instead we waited for an hour to get our luggage upstairs. The valet service was wonderful and accommodating of my needs. The room 603 was awkward regarding the inability to isolate the toilet from the rest of the room due to the open back entrance to the bathroom.

My buddy and I rode there on motorcycles and parked in the Valet parking area. Within about 6 hours, $5000 worth of gear was stolen off our motorcycles. This will probably be the last time I stay at the hotel.

Very cool old hotel with modern upgrades. Huge rooms, like a suite, very comfortable bed.

I suppose they hadn’t considered that many women wear make up and need light for that. Impossible to do my make-up (even in the morning) as bathroom too dark, no lighting on desk, no plug on desk for mirror.

The hotel lobby was really beautiful. Both gentlemen at the Valet stand were awesome. The room was clean and smelled great.

The staff is courteous, polite, very helpful with every need you may have, they go out of their way to accommodate you. The valet parking is wonderful and they always open your car door and meet you at hotel door to open it as well. As far as the food goes, I’ve mostly ordered my food from the hotel menu and have to say everything has been very good! I traveled with a 13 lb multipoo and a small parrot and the only downside was having to cross 2 streets for the dog to go potty, I’m in my late 60’s so was a little uncomfortable in late night early morning hours as this Hotel is downtown so there are a lot of vocal homeless people out in the area But I would defiantly stay here again just wouldn’t bring my dog.

Interesting history and if you are heading through it’s a kind of different place to stay, way better than a typical cookie cutter chain. More like a big city old school vibe. Good bar. Food was excellent.

We enjoy staying at the Padre when visiting family in Bakersfield. It’s a Bakersfield institution, and dog friendly. The rooms are big and comfortable.

It's a really nice older property, b ut upkept really well. The rooms are large and very comfortable. The staff was very attentive and friendly at the desk and in the restaurant. I wish the old fine dining restaurant was still here. The lighting in the bathroom in the room was horrible. You can barley see the mirror above the sink let alone trying to get ready in there. Too bad too, because the bathroom and shower are very nice. just seriously needs a vanity light, they were trying to be a little to chic when it came to the lighting design, but missed the boat.

Seriously the best hotel in Bakersfield! We loved our stay and will absolutely be coming back. The restaurant was so amazing as well. The front desk staff were beyond incredible. Sarah at the front went above and beyond my expectations and was so helpful! I called her my hero! Raise for her please! Valet guy could definitely act a little more interested in doing his job. Maybe also open the door for people, if that doesnt take him away from playing on his phone. The bathrooms were so cool. Very nice. But I took a shower in the evening and in the middle of the night, the shampoo and body wash bottles fell off the wall in the shower. Scared the heck out of me. The condensation from the shower must have caused the tacky strip on the bottles to lose their grip from the wall. I feel like there could be a better way to mount them.

No luggage carts available and need an easier check in process (quicker); shower needs a darker curtain to cover the exposed side.

I won't stay here again, however, because I was initially given a key to someone else's room. When my key didn't work on the room initially assigned to me, I returned to the front desk for help. The same staff person who had just checked me in informed me, smiling, that the room was actually occupied by another party. No apology, no apparent concern that she tried to send me to another person's room. (The front desk wasn't busy when I checked in, and I wasn't in a rush. There's no reason the staff couldn't have checked the room was already occupied before sending me there.) I'm a solo female traveler, and this is a red flag. I won't be back.

This place is luxurious and comfortable. The bed is wonderful. You are right downtown. The staff Is very friendly. They have a parking lot, and street parking is abundant. Happy hour has ridiculously huge portions and it is delicious.

Beautiful historical hotel with a classic western theme. Room was very clean and the bed was so cozy and fluffy it was tempting to sleep in late. Bar staff was very friendly and made excellent cocktails.

Vintage hotel. Bed comfortable. We parked our car on the street over night. No reason to pay expensive valet of $18 per night. Only 2-3 carts to transport luggage, etc to room. Only one person working the coffee/food bar in the morning. Long wait in line then had to sit and wait more for coffee/food.

We received amazing customer service by the front desk and loved our room! They provided us a beautiful quiet room for our wedding night. The only thing I disagree with is that we did not receive cleaning service and we did request it.

The room felt like I was home. The building itself was live and vibrant. The shower and coffee were excellent. The hallway wallpaper is a little bit creepy, especially after I was told that the 7th floor is rumored to be haunted. The pillows were soft, but the bed itself was hard.

Everything from check-in, to the amazing food at the restaurant, to the amazing staff was very enjoyable and I will be back next time I’m in Bakersfield.

We went uo there for a wedding, but really enjoyed the amenities there. Walking distance to lots of bars. Could have used firmer pillows on the bed, but that was really the only negative.

The frontdesk clerk had the most unfriendly attitude when checking in. 20 min after we had checked in, my wfe went to ask her a question and she immediately went away from the counter making my wife wait for her for about 5 min (probably she thought my wife would go away if she wasnt there). She was brisk and court, in other words, unapproachable. At the restaurant, I asked for a ribeye stake medium well, instead, i got it medium rare; the waitress argued the stake was indeed medium well so i was able to eat only part of it. We definitely didnt have a good experience there. The check out clerk was nice, though.

Been wanting to check out the Padre for a while. Hit it in August, when it's extra hot in Bakersfield. Got a spacious corner room with a nice view of the town. Room was very clean, very nice. Didn't take advantage of much else in the hotel, but it was a great stay.

We plan on returning to explore it more.

In Bakersfield there are not a lot of options for a unique and stylish hotel. This is really it! It's a fun older hotel - almost 100 years old but very well kept and rooms are clean and upgraded nicely. There is a "rooftop" bar but we assumed it was on the "roof" - could have been cool to see the view. It's actually on the 2nd floor and they had parties there both nights with a cover so we didn't get to try it.

I have medical issues and the staff was very accommodating.

Every was lovely: nice decore, comfortable bed, great staff, very clean EXCEPT for when I arrived there was a long black hair hanging on the body wash container. I avoided it during my shower, and the next morning I let the front desk know that the shower needed to be cleaned a bit more thoroughly. I left for some business but when I returned, it was still there. The room had been attended to but the trash was not emptied and the gross hair was still there. I informed the front desk and they sent someone immediately to remedy the issue. This person was very thorough, and I definitely appreciated the quick attention.

The property was good. Our phone never worked in our suite. It wouldn’t be a problem until I needed to reach out about a room service I had placed at the bar earlier and was taking longer than expected. We didn’t get our order until 40 mins later and my phone never got even looked at after reporting it. Other than that, everything was good. Just wished they had put more than 2 large towels.

Great hotel near everything downtown

No support whatsoever. In my room there was an ottoman at the end of the bed. The ottoman is black and so is the carpet, my husband took a horrible fall in the middle of the night. Not safe!!! The coffee shop serves excellent coffee, And the restaurant, although limited menu, had tasty food. The room service is very good too! I’ve stayed at this hotel twice and both times had problems with my room not getting cool enough! This time I had to use a maintenance fan to be able to cope with the heat! The service staff overall is 5 star, from reception, valet, cleaning and so forth! Very friendly, professional and caring!

I enjoyed everything about the stay except dining. The room was extremely loud. The menu didn’t appeal to me. I had breakfast at the cafe in the morning. It was outstanding.

The Padre was a beautiful hotel

The property is very nice and the rooms comfortable. Parking is an issue as there is no Hotel parking lot. You can either pay for valet parking, or there is a public parking garage close by but that means toting your luggage to the hotel.

First room had a broken ac. Second room had no WiFi connection. Third room had a broken security lock and a broken shower knob.

Loved the hotel room! It had a modern design and was quiet. The area around the hotel seemed safe. The parking was the worst part. There doesn’t seem to be free over night parking near by. I had to pay for valet.

Very nice hotel staff was great. The room was very nice upgraded my room the second night room was larger but it felt like a massive downgrade, the 170$ room had a beautiful shower that you could see through to the bed it my wife and I liked it was kinda romantic and very nice. The upgraded room was just bigger no fancy shower extremely basic and honestly kind of disappointing. That being said this hotel was a pleasant surprise and for the price you can’t beat it. Was perfect for what we needed.

Relaxing stay

We specified we were looking for a hotel with a pool. There was no pool. We had to upgrade our room, and if you are looking for quiet this hotel is not the place for you. The lobby is ALWAYS LOUD AND OBNOXIOUS. The room is only as quiet as the number of occupied rooms around yours. You can hear the refrigerator in the next room, the ac units the water 24/7, etc.

Unfortunately, my stay was negatively impacted by a persistent sewer smell in the room that lasted throughout the night.

The place to stay in Bakersfield

Likely the best hotel in Bakersfield. Doesn’t stack up as a luxurious hotel but is convenient if you need to be there and the staff was very helpful polite and accommodating.

What a wonderful hotel! It was decorated so nicely! The staff was pleasant. The bed was comfortable! The room was quiet. We would definitely go back!

Almost perfect but... Rooms are spacious, bed is comfortable and the hotel has a nice vibe. The bathrooms are kinda kinky! The only issue is they BLAST county pop ALL DAY LONG, even at 7 am when the downstairs bar is closed. We could hear it all the way from the 3rd floor!

Very kind staff easy check in process and even though it is a older hotel with vintage vibes, it still is modern and very comfortable. Great drinks and restaurant inside the hotel as well
