Horrible don't stay here. It's closing down anyway.

Alas, the South Congress Hotel’s last day was Sunday, May 31. Since we live in the neighborhood we enjoyed hanging out in the lobby, at the bar, at No Se Cafe, Maie Day and Manana over the years but it wasn’t until the Memorial Day weekend before The Standard takes over (June 1) that we finally stayed as guests. We enjoyed our staycation, hung out with drinks at the pool and got to experience SoCo as tourists. It was bittersweet but fun. We loaded up on some SoCo Hotel bling for old time’s sake — a coupla mugs, a nice woven throw blanket and a coupla really nice SoCo bathrobes. They’ll be good remembrances of our old stomping grounds. Long live the SoCo!

Good thing they are doing a renovation.

It was clean and quiet The first room I rented had a bathtub, but the second one did not.

We love South Congress so much. It’s our go to hotel in Austin. So sad to see it go!

This is a beautiful property and very good value. We booked a large suite at a good rate. The problem? Housekeeping. When we checked in our door had been left ajar, and this happened every single time housekeeping came. On two different days housekeeping never showed... when they did, they didn't refresh the towels. For two straight days we never received bath mats which were essential for the shower/tub set-up. The concierge was well meaning, but directed us to a taco stand that was closed without checking hours. When we originally emailed the concierge for recs, we never received a response. Very nice property, great value, but a lot of service issues.

The room has no fridge, only a mini-bar. I had to wolf down leftovers to not let them go to waste.
- 2/5
Very poor conditions of the property, I was appalled.
- 5/5
Parking is a fortune should validate for people staying at hotel
- 5/5
Very nice hotel! Very clean room and well stocked mini bar in the room. The lobby bar was a very fun casual place to hang out with very nice and friendly bartenders. And the front desk staff were very warm and helpful. I will definitely be back!

The location in SoCo avenue is fantastic, nice walks in the area and plenty of restaurants, bars and stores The shower pressure is too low

Mostly good location and nice room Don’t clean room everyday for an expensive hotel seems rather odd to me. Water in the shower was like warm at best and nothing was done about it

Clean room, nice and friendly staff, convenient to shops and restaurants

Overall I give this an overpriced MEH.

Design and furniture were great and well considered. It felt independent the team were wonderful The really loud party was very loud as predicted but we’re looked after and given earplugs and an invite
- 2/5
No hot water, broken fixtures, broken shower. This property is poorly taken care of. There's little care for upkeep here - v disappointing for price point

Good location, friendly staff, nice pool A bit tired, maintenance issues with doors around the property, feels a bit bare . Rumor is that this hotel is closing and reopening under The Standard brand.

Great location. Hotel is modern chic with a young vibe. Bed was very comfortable. Good restaurants on property. Only complaint is the weird glass window in the shower that looks directly into the main room. Why?!

The first night was lovely. The second night was a nightmare. There was a wedding that kept me up half the night. When I called the desk, they initially apologized for the “raucous” party happening in the courtyard below me. They promised they would cut off the music by 10:00, then 10:30, then 11:00, and finally around 11:30 they said they were doing the “send-off” which apparently included sparklers. So I was lying in bed listening to 1) fights between guests and 2) guests expressing concerns about SETTING THE TREES ON FIRE WITH THE SPARKLERS. So, please don’t believe that the rooms are soundproofed as it says on the website.

Location, location, location! It's in a great spot with lots of shops and delicious food. Everyone at the hotel was so nice and helpful. Our first room had a great view, but the bathroom only had warm water. They moved us to an interior room and the water was hot in the bath and shower. Overall, a great spot for a long weekend.

Room was clean and this was my husbands first stay here and I wanted him to love it. Unfortunately, we had no hot water on our first day-the coldest day Austin had seen-high of 55, with windchill at 36! We called the front Office, they sent an engineer and 30 minutes, replaced shower head?!?!? Obviously, that didn’t help. It was still freezing. The told us the next day they’d be moving us to a new room with hot water. The room was very nice and we did have hot water but we were only there 2 nights. So, it was a bummer. When we wanted to order room service, it was closed! Closed by 8 pm-and I had raved to my husband about the deviled eggs! So, needless to say, it wasn’t the great jaunt I thought it be.
- 3/5
Why they can’t have hot water at any point in our five day stay is embarrassing. Or refresh amenities without asking. Or leave hair on floors after cleaning. Or have missing trim on the floors. Been steady fans of South Congress for years and this has been the worst experience. And our last stay.
- 4/5
We love staying here. Restaurants and coffee shop are all great. The vibe is coo and location is perfect.
- 2.5/5
Amenities were not available. Live music until 11 pm

Cons: Room wasn’t ready for more than two hours after check in time. Hotel bar seems to frequently close for private events. Shower never got more than luke warm. Room had a funky mildew smell.
- 3/5
Shower had a clear window to the room. No blackout curtains. Water took a long time to get hot. Nightstand lamp constantly flickered like a strobe light. Women’s public restroom in lobby didn’t lock. Location was perfect.

Staff was great. Rooms are tired and worn. Floor buckles, tables peeling and scratched. Tiles broken in bathroom and toilet doesn’t flush right. Shower never got hot. This place needs a renovation badly. The shower has a window that goes into the bedroom area so if you wake up early for a work event, you blast the whole place with light. Also, the hotel had some sort of buy out by a company so on our second day all of the restaurants were closed in preparation for that. Would have been nice to know that before we booked. Felt like we weren’t supposed to be there.

The beds/pillows were a bit too soft and irritated our backs (and I’ve never had historical back problems!). It would’ve been great to have options to improve this I.e. mattress toppers, pillow variety, or changing rooms if there were newer beds available.

Everything was great. Not to happy to have to pay $30 a day for a fold out bed when the room advertised it sleep 3 people but only had one bed.

We loved this hotel. The location is unbeatable, within walking distance to everything. The staff was very kind and made us feel truly welcome. We were celebrating a birthday, and they placed a birthday card, some chocolates, and a bottle in the room. The hotel’s aesthetic and design are beautiful as well. There's also plenty of coffee shops, shops, restaurants in the area which is an always a plus. Parking was $45 a night -- which, given the location, we felt was fair. Some furniture does look a little worn out, but nothing major.

excellent location and great amenities - from pool to restaurants. the bunk rooms were great for a girls trip and bathroom was spacious for getting ready. the front desk was very accommodating to special requests. the rooms were extremely dark. the HVAC didn’t circulate to the bunk room well so it got stuffy at night. showers with a partial glass shower wall are cold, provide no privacy, and make a huge mess.

I came to Austin for a one night trip to spread my father‘s ashes on his college campus that he loved so dearly. The hotel staff did not know this, but upgraded me upon my arrival to the Milton suite which was the most magnificent hotel room I’ve ever stayed in! It made my state that much more memorable and special.

Room was spacious and stylish. Great view of pool from large terrace. City street noise was not an issue from our position. Very friendly staff. Restaurant cafe was delicious. They do have self parking in the garage below but thought $45 dollars was a bit on the pricy side. There is paid street parking available that you can pay from your phone. The area is safe with lots of restaurants, shops, bars, all within walking distance. Even the walk to the river was within reach. We would definitely consider staying here again.

The rooms were very comfortable. It was clean and peaceful. The staff were extremely responsive and helpful. They had a complementary gift waiting for us because it was our anniversary. Every request we made was honored. We were worried about noise because there was an NYE party on the first floor, but we heard nothing. We were a little disappointed with the south congress vibe. It’s gotten very commercial. But that has nothing to do with the hotel.

I am giving the hotel five stars because the staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly. The public spaces of the property are very inviting and stylish. My room, a corner loft, was well appointed and quite clean. However, several things in the room require repair. For instance, one of the shower knobs continually fell off, one of the sink faucets significantly leaked when turned on, and one of the tv remotes was non-functional even after having the battery changed.

Beautiful modern hotel in the perfect Austin location! I was upgraded to a suite on the top floor with a pool view which was gorgeous, and the $40 credit to use was a great bonus. You’re within blocks of some of the most iconic spots on South Congress - highly recommend!

The lobby wasn’t well maintained. There were dirty napkins and lemon wedges on the floor, and it didn’t look like anyone was keeping up with basic cleaning. The couches in the lobby were so worn they had tears in the leather. I tried calling room service twice with no answer, so I had to go downstairs just to place an order. One of the front desk staff members also wasn’t very friendly, which didn’t help the experience. They did try to make up for the check-in issues by giving us three free drink tickets, which I appreciated, but it didn’t change the overall experience. The location was fine, but the room faced Congress Avenue and was loud. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was nice. Overall, the hotel feels worn down for the price, and I wouldn’t stay here again.

Had to leave early because rooms on South Congress are so loud - terrible. nights sleep with cars speeding up and down all night long - I do not know why they do not offer sound proof windows, it is a shame. Great location, great-ish staff - the other negative is that the rooms are very dark. If we were able to sleep it would have been worth it, but we were up all night by the sounds of sirens and cars speeding outside our room. Unfortunate.

Excellent in every way! Right in the center of the south Congress neighborhood, which is vibrant with restaurants, boutiques bars, and easy access to other of the Chi Austin neighborhoods. The hotel is a bit larger than a boutique size but it's still retains the boutique sense of intimacy and luxury. The beds were incredibly comfortable to migrate the light. The staff was consistently helpful. A lovely pool deck. I would highly recommend this and plan to stay here anytime I'm going to Austin. Everything good!

Room was to dark even with all the lights on. Not enough privacy in the shower. Anyone in the bedroom could catch you take a shower. Did not like the industrial (or whatever the look is they’re going for) look they seem to have going on. Had big problem with Maie Day restaurant, they managers seemed to be a little weak on the concern.

I highly recommend staying here, especially if you would like to be within walking distance of great dining and shopping.

I did not get the room I booked, a pool side room, but instead was told I was automatically given a complimentary upgrade. It sounded great to me until I realized it was the corner room overlooking and loud and busy street. I was told they were fully booked and unable to accommodate a room change until Saturday. On Saturday I wasn’t given enough time to decide or repack myself. Otherwise the pool staff, the bar staff and the housekeeping were highlights. I didn’t sleep much because of the road noise. I just wanted the room I booked.

On Saturday I wasn’t given enough time to decide or repack myself. Otherwise the pool staff, the bar staff and the housekeeping were highlights. I didn’t sleep much because of the road noise. I just wanted the room I booked.

Location. Very nicely decorated. Friendly staff. Fun bar and good restaurant for breakfast. Cute pool area Would have liked to have been able to cool down the room. We were hot sleeping. Courtyard was loud at night. The situation next to the bed was odd. Had to plug my charger into an extension cord which sparked when I did so.

Very comfortable stay. Checking in was easy, the area is a prime location for food, shopping, and fun, and is very walkable. I will definitely stay here again in the future.

Let’s start with the torn-up leather sofa in the Lobby and the temporary mobile AC. Upstairs the room overlooked an alley with dumpster, room was depressing and all night heard banging and bathroom drain gurgling. I wanted to go use the gym and it was the size of a coat closet, smelled of mold and drywall ceiling repairs were going on. Went to the pool and it looked like the size of a hot tub and that an out of control frat party happened the night before. Pool tiles smashed, missing and safety latter was collapsed and pulled up tiles and concrete! This was NOT the same boutique hotel as depicted in the photos online. I checked out that morning fleeing to a luxury hotel that made my trip to Austin enjoyable.

Had to move rooms because the AC couldn’t cool room. The second room wasn’t much better, as it never got below 72. Get better AC in the rooms, it’s Austin in July. Also, the rectangular toilets were super weird and hard to flush. The staff was lovely and did their best.

Love the location, rooms are clean and no funky smells. We changed rooms because the mattress wasn’t comfortable in the first room but the staff was very accommodating and there was zero issues changing rooms. Wish the bathroom lighting was a tiny bit brighter. Pool was lovely. Food at hotel was tasty, drinks potent.

They charge you a daily fee for amenities (that they do not tell you about), do not clean the room while you are there, but on checkout day start knocking almost every 30 minutes starting at 8am - even though check out is at noon and you put out the do not disturb sign.

⸻ Had a great stay at the South Congress Hotel. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. Loved the bar with its great selection and lively atmosphere. The common areas are very comfortable and perfect for lounging, working, or socializing. The gym is well equipped for a hotel, with Peloton bikes and fitness mirrors (I believe from Mirror or a similar brand), which was a nice touch. The pool has a relaxed, low-key vibe that we really enjoyed. Our room had a good balance of style and function. The only downside was the very dim lighting, which wasn’t ideal on a rainy Fourth of July weekend. Still, everything else more than made up for it. The location is fantastic, right in the heart of South Congress and within walking distance of great shops and restaurants. Highly recommend.

Liked the location. You can walk to bars and restaurants. The pool was nice but calk coming off in the tikes a bit. Great service everywhere. We had snack and drinks at the pool. Room were nice and comfy water pressure not strong in shower but nice to have the soaps and lotions. A little W&T but that is expected. Dt and the lake are a short ride away. Plenty of shopping and food/drinks to walk to. Again service was great everywhere!! Thank you?

Very easy parking. Convenient location in Austin. Didn’t like the lighting in the room, especially the bathroom, where the lighting is all on one side of the face. No handle bars in the shower. Note that the water is very soft.

This is a beautiful Boutique Hotel with lovely staff. The area is perfect for walking shopping and dining. The room was a great size and had a great view of the pool area. Zero complaints.

Great location. Great staff. Lobby couches old, shabby and ripped. Lighting in room very very dim.
- 2/5
The property was great but the valet gave me a flat tire and refused to do anything about it, they simply told me to talk to my insurance… very shocked at this lack of customer service. They still made me pay for my valet! Very disappointed and shocked from a “luxury” hotel.

Our favorite Austin hotel! Chic and cool just like the city. Staff is very friendly.
- 4/5
It’s a great location. And a nice hotel, but it needs better servicing of rooms. And better lighting in rooms. Love a great mood lighting situation, but when you feel like every corner has misplaced items, it’s annoying.

We had a great stay at the South Congress hotel. We brought our dog & they had us in a room with a patio which was great for our pooch. The room was a little worn but it was a suite that they put us in as an upgrade from a regular room. We would definitely come back & stay again!

We had an amazing time at the South Congress Hotel! From the moment we booked our stay, the customer service was fantastic. When we arrived, the staff welcomed us with big smiles and made checking in a breeze. They even surprised us with a complimentary bottle of champagne to toast our wedding—such a thoughtful touch! Plus, they went above and beyond for our pup, providing cozy bowls and a comfy bed just for him. We can’t wait to come back!

We had a great stay. The hotel is clean and nice with a great location around lots of walkable shops & restaurants. They have underground parking that makes it great for easy in & out with the option of valet. The front desk was helpful. Our issue was the noise. We stayed on the second floor and they were hosting a wedding on a Saturday night. We could hear every word from the music being played until it was shut down at 11pm. After that, you could hear all of the clean up and shifting around of chairs/tables that night and into the next morning. We turned on a sound machine and that helped.
- 5/5
Great room and convenience
- 5/5
I love this hotel & always stay here when I come to Austin. It’s right in the main drag of South Congress. All the live music, shopping, dining & nightlife is right outside your door & walkable.

The best thing about this quirky hotel are the cleaning ladies. They were so kind and helpful every day. They were so accommodating and considerate. They are the best!

So weird to not be able to control the hot water. Also would have liked to have an alarm clock. (or instructions to work the contraption). Staff was very friendly, cool vibes in the decor, fun and hip location

Mandy Jo made our check in and out easy and was extremely friendly! Alex was a great valet and helped us with our luggage, super nice guy! Great location, bar service was wonderful. Clean pool and gym.

My husband and I have always loved South Congress Hotel and like supporting local places. Unfortunately next time we visit Austin we will find another place to stay. The best part was the nice valet guy and the bartender at the pool knows how to make a good clean margarita. When we arrived for check in the greeting was ehh, like they were annoyed to help. I called twice about how hot our room was and nobody ever did anything. We had planned to spend Saturday afternoon drinking and lounging by the small pool but the hotel was hosting a drag event. The pool was overtaken with people and a dj, would not have booked the hotel if we would have know. And then at three am the fire alarm went off. Come on SCH I know you can do better. And please buy some new couches for the lobby, the ones there are all torn up and gross.
- 5/5
Beautiful modern hotel with clean rooms, posh bar and pool areas, and very friendly staff. In the heart of South Congress so location could not be better.
- 5/5
Excellent experience. New hotel that is in great shape with plenty of amenities. The location was amazing. What really impressed me was the staff. The service exceeded what I've received at other hotels with much higher price points. All in all, a very enjoyable experience.
- 3/5
Super loud street noise. It was suppose to be a getaway for my husband and I to catch up on sleep and rest but the street was super loud all night.
- 5/5
Hotel was very nice. A hot tub would’ve been wonderful as well as better lighting in the rooms

This was a great last minute experience.

LOVED this hotel, the location, the staff was great. Great amenities. Our room was fun, but a little noisy you could hear a random noise that suddenly woke us up. But other than that amazing stay, pool could use a little TLC but it was fun and would stay again in a heartbeat.
- 5/5
Loved the location. Also happy the bar was open later and had food options. Nice clean hotel.

Perfect “chill” for a short respite in a fantastic, electric city

Great property, excellent pool. Friendly and professional staff.
- 5/5
It has the perfect location and a good vibe
- 5/5
Pool was fantastic. Staff was warm and helpful.
- 5/5
What an amazing stay! The staff was friendly, water & coffee in the lobby was a nice little bonus. Spent a lot of time in the pool (it wasn’t huge, but it was still refreshing). And the bar in the lobby… where to begin! Bradley was the BEST! He gave us so many suggestions of where to go, what to do and he just made our stay (a group of 6 friends) so much fun.
- 5/5
Great stay and good value for money.
- 5/5
I booked this last minute due to a flight being cancelled and needing to spend one more night in Austin. I loved the place and will consider it for my longer stays. I arrived at the hotel very early in the morning and the person at the front desk accommodated me by immediately making the room available even though (by their policy) they didn't have to accommodate me until 11:00 AM. Great experience all around.
- 5/5
Great room and the staff was very helpful.
- 3/5
Rooms are basic and shower heads painfully over pressurized. Hotel staff is uninterested in putting in any hospitality work. Not worth $500 a night. It’s trying to be a Moxy without any moxy.
- 5/5
Incredible stay — super friendly staff and clean, stylish spaces.
- 5/5
Property was great, front desk staff was super accommodating and eager to make our stay the best!
- 3/5
Hotel is ok but decorated to a modern aesthetic but not what we expected at this price point. Staff inconsistent about services and perks offered. Staff is super friendly but apparently don't communicate with each other

Stayed at the South Congress for a bachelorette weekend and had the best time. The staff was friendly and the room was comfortable. Enjoyed drinks at the bar and ate a delicious clubhouse poolside.

The property intermeshes with the neighborhood and its vibe seamlessly. Not fussy but comfortable and plenty of good quality amenities to check out.
- 5/5
The staff was amazing- Simone, Taylor, Marni Jo, Pedro, Carson, Alex, Frieda, and Sam. All were very friendly, professional, courteous, kind, informative, approachable, and knowledgeable. The hotel is in walking distance of so many restaurants and cultural sites. The pool is beautiful. The bars are very popular! Thank you for making our stay during the eclipse fantastic I am so grateful for the use of the electric bicycles. Thank you for providing them with helmets.

Window in shower facing directly to bed Square toilet and seat No grab bars in shower with slippery tile floor

Great location. Room 222 had a noisy air conditioner (hummed like an old refrigerator) and the single story ballroom next door was too noisy after 10:00 to drown out.
- 2/5
There is no way to leave any light on at night due to the design of the room - it seems silly.
- 5/5
The front desk, espcially Louis, was all so helpful! Room was amazing@
