Fun hotel with a great little pool. Perfect location to explore Austin It’s only minor, but no coffee in room for those of us that get up before the coffee shops open is a bit of a bummer

The pool is where it’s at! It has a great vibe, and overall I absolutely loved the retro look and feel of the hotel. While it doesn’t have all the mod cons of a modern hotel, I’m genuinely glad a place like this still exists. You can really see how much Austin Motel understands, loves and celebrates retro style. Having a bath in the room was a total bonus, and the water pressure was excellent. The bed was one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in. The location is excellent, and having Joann’s downstairs was a bonus, especially for easy tacos by the pool. There was also a fabulous night with old cars, which suited the motel perfectly. I met some fantastic people at the pool, the tunes were always on point, and there was loads of sun by the pool right up until sunset. Great management, too. The only downside was that I paid a high price and initially felt I had been given one of the motel’s least appealing rooms. I wish I had raised it earlier, because to be honest, it was quite a depressing shock for my first couple of days in Austin. To the motel’s credit, when I did eventually mention it, they upgraded my room, which I really appreciated. The electrical outlets could also do with replacing and rethinking for the needs of travelling guests, especially given how many devices people now carry. The old tiled floors may suit the retro look, but they are quite impractical and could do with an update.

The location was excellent. It was a bit tight on space. I didn’t realize that when I booked. The convenience made up for it. The cost was more than I wanted to pay for such a small room but that’s the norm for South Congress.

I lived in Austin for 19 years before moving to Dallas and have always wanted to stay there. I’m glad we did, it was pricey but it was a great trip taking friends back to Austin because the location is perfect in the heart of everything. And of course, the pool is iconic.

Great motel in the heart of Congress Ave; it’s a motel but feels like old Austin. If you enjoy the feel of Austin from 30 years ago, book now. I loved it so much!

Pool was small but super cute with a really fun vibe. Even though property is older, it is very clean. There is an ice machine and filtered water available. AC worked excellent and the staff was so friendly. Super convenient to all the restaurants and shopping on South Congress. Very fun weekend!

Location location location! Conveniently located on South Congress, walkable to plenty of restaurants and shopping. Parking is convenient. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful! The Motel achieve its retro vibe, although it could stand a bit of a facelift, it’s starting to show some age, although it is clean. The pool and the pool bar are awesome. Despite being on a busy road it is extremely quiet.

Just the ease of location, staff were helpful and the facilities were great. Needs blinds or curtains in the bedrooms

Such a cute motel. I especially liked the pool. All of the staff I encountered were lovely. At check-in, the woman at the front desk was happy to share things to do in Austin and how to get around. There was also a drag show one afternoon, and the queens came to the pool afterwards to socialize!

Cute hotel/motel in a very good location on S Congress Ave, with access to many shops and restaurants. And free parking! Nice pool as well. Room was well equipped and organized. Room was quite small, and the bed as well.. you're really paying for the location

Upon check in, I gave a different credit card for incidentals and was told the on-hold amount would be credited to my card upon checkout. The hotel charged my card an additional fee for “state tax” after check out. This additional fee was not disclosed to me at any point during check in or check out.

My room was updated but the sleeping experience was very much like a Motel 6 for 3 times the price! Poor and noisy AC/Heat, light from the neon sign streaming through the blinds, etc. Trending does not mean comfortable or even enjoyable.

We had the best stay! Cute aesthetic throughout the motel-- outdoor space, pool, lobby and such a great location. Staff were lovely! I can't wait to go back.

The motel is very nice and cute. Even the simple rooms were super fine and clean. It is in a great location, best in town, with plenty of shops and places to eat and drinks best by. Stuff is very friendly and the all check in and check out process was very easy! Strongly recommended Location, location, location…quirky deco, great stuff, free parking

The location could not be more perfect, right on south congress and in walking distance to some amazing stores, restaurants and bars! Easy to get around and to the airport. The hotel has so much charm and the staff was so friendly. I cant wait to come back! there were not many outlets in my room which made charging my phone tough

We’ve lived in an Austin suburb for 20 years and decided to celebrate our anniversary with an iconic Austin weekend, so the Austin Motel was an easy choice. The location is perfect for walking to many fun spots on So Congress and really experiencing the heart of Austin! Of course we took plenty of pictures under the famous retro Austin Motel sign and loved being just steps from the “I love you so much” wall, Jo's Coffee, Guero's Tacos, etc. The motel is super cute, the room was clean and comfortable, the staff was friendly, and the whole place has such a fun, funky vibe. It made for a great anniversary stay.

The fact that I had to choose between this hotel and the hotel San Jose. Impossible

I really enjoyed my stay at Austin Motel. The location is excellent, the staff are warm and helpful, and the free parking is a rare and valuable bonus in the area. The rooms are creative, comfortable, and full of personality, making it a fun and easy place to stay One downside was the noise. I could clearly hear the guest above me late at night, including the bed squeaking, which made it hard to fully relax. The blinds are also inadequate, and a lot of light floods the room, making sleep somewhat challenging. It is also worth noting that during peak tourist times, Congress Avenue can become quite congested with both pedestrians and cars

This property was great for my daughter and I because we were on a sightseeing adventure and loved the location. The rooms are clean and the staff were very helpful. It has a very funky, retro feel. Nothing they can do about this but something to be wary of as I imagine it could impact the stay for some people. Walls are paper thin. We could hear every squeak and movement from the people above and all the noise from the family next door.

Staff was great- even brought me my DoorDash order super late at night! Very friendly, love it! Even wrote my wife and I a nice note as it was our wedding night! Nothing, it was perfect!

This is an iconic Austin hotel. My now husband and I stayed here during our first date (which was me flying to Texas for a 6 day road trip). This hotel is fun, clean, super comfortable beds, and in an unbelievable location to still offer free parking. We loved it 9 years ago and still love it today. The staff is amazing, friendly, accommodating and show that customer service is NOT a dying industry. Everything was wonderful.

LOVED LOVED the lobby and our room 308! Bought a darling hot dog candle for a cousins wedding shower. The pool was AMAZING as was the party Thursday night with live band dancing and vintage cars. Enjoyed the blue corn pancakes at Joann’s fine foods next door.

Fun and friendly, we loved the decor and the location! It was too cold while we were there for the pool but it was neato looking. We enjoyed our stay. Room was comfy and had what we needed. I'd stay again! Would like a blackout shade. Otherwise no complaints.

This is just the coolest hotel. Great little shop at reception if you run out of drinks or snacks in your room. The pool is from another time, in the best way. Shower pressure was unbelievable, and I'm so glad they kept the old motel look to the rooms, despite the decor. This is a gem.

The only reason I gave it four stars is the size of the room and the fact it is a motel with a Hotel price tag. I fully understand we are paying for location, so I am not complaining, but wanted to be honest. Staff gets 5 stars! The pool is awesome! Parking is good. And it is safe.

The staff is fabulous. They're beyond friendly, helpful and kind. The tv in my room was showing its age, and didn't work with my firestick that I always use when traveling, but the cable worked and the wifi was strong. I was really looking forward to using the pool but the weather had other plans. There's an ice machine but I didn't see any beverage machines, so keep that in mind. I loved my stay!

This is an iconic Austin motel. Update it with funky rooms lots of cool things near and around the motel. The pool is great with an outdoor bar. Great, bartender, staff very friendly. I've been there many times and this was one of my best days.

They went above and beyond, as usual! This place is my go-to for the most uniquely Austin experience. The perfect mix of retro aesthetic and modern comfort. The staff was so friendly and made our trip extra special. The pool was perfection - top notch frozen margaritas!

Mattie, at the front desk, was super friendly, accommodating, hospitable and went out of her way to make sure my experience was excellent all around! Love the Austin Motel swag by the way! Love this retro motel and awesome courtyard bar. We stayed in a deluxe king room and my only complaint is that there was no hook by the shower for your towel when you need it post shower and there is no microwave for reheating leftovers from the many great restaurants around the area.

Iconic sign, friendly staff, clean rooms and a killer pool make this the best place to stay on S. Congress. Walked to the bat bridge, Lady Bird Lake , Home Slice and all the area has to offer. Saw a great show at The Continental Club late and easy walk to our room after!

This is a delightful motel surrounded by lots of restaurants and stores. It is also a short walk from the bat bridge and we had a spectacular viewing of the bats exiting the bridge. It was also within walking distance of Black's barbecue.

The next room also had just a lock on the handle, it was loose and didn’t feel secure. As a singular lady, didn’t feel the safest so I switched to another hotel. If it had a deadbolt, may have felt better. But the walls are so thin that you can hear everything. The property is iconic but is a bit older, the beds are very low to the ground.

We had a great staycation ant Austin Motel. It’s in an ideal location and it was very photographable and charming. Our largest complaint was feeling as though the rooms lacking certain comforts. For example - It was a cold austin night and the blankets weren’t very warm and due to the locks enabled on the thermostat, we had to wake up every two hours to change the temperature and warm up the room. Aside from this, we packed minimally, anticipating the room would have the basic shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, etc. however, they don’t have what you might expect at any other hotel. We needed lotion, Q-tips, standard bottle of water and maybe a cheap hotel slipper for the tile flooring but they don’t have that. Considering the boutique pricing, I would definitely expect this to be the standard (along with nicer toilet paper). These definitely aren’t deal breakers but something to be considered before spending the money.

Absolutely loved the decor and location of this motel! So many food options nearby, and loved the quirkiness of the hotel.

Great food at nearby Joann's Fine Foods and awesome coffee across the street at Jo's.

Cute Funky hotel in the center of the action. Great Restaurants and activities within a 3 min walk. Cool decor Room and hotel Amenities are basic but functional. No desk, no iron, no coffee maker. (But coffee in the lounge and Jo's famous Coffee is a 1-min walk.)

My family came in for a concert two days before thanksgiving. Room was great as per usual, and congress was a little busier than the norm. We had an amazing stay. Motel staff are always friendly.

Despite a few modern upgrades, it literally is a motel - outdoor staircases, courtyard pool and all. If you're into that vibe, this is a pretty clean and functional example of how to reboot an old motel (but definitely not as done up as an Ace Hotel). Cute gift shop in the lobby selling art and merch from local artists and fun classic café and bar on street level.

Cute motel with a long history. But it’s just that - a motel. And if you’re not in one of the rooms close to the pool, you feel like you‘re in a very mediocre motel. The rooms are nicely decorated but the wear and tear of a place that has been around since the 1930‘s is pretty visible. The rooms are definitely overpriced.

We had an east facing window. Blinds with no curtain, so I was awake at 6am. Honestly was up all night from the street lights coming in the window also. Then I got a parking ticket even though I registered my car. The front desk said they would take care of it, which was very nice. Not sure how to confirm that.

Great location, pretty close to Zilker park, we were able to walk to ACL every day without any issues. Friendly staff and ample parking.

I’ve been coming to Austin for work/pleasure for years but have never stayed here before. I decided to take a chance and was rewarded with a fun, comfortable stay in the absolute middle of Congress Ave and all it has to offer! The staff were so attentive and welcoming and the FREE parking right outside my door was incredible! Loved the full mini-fridge and the lovely patio and pool area to hang out in! Safe, comfortable and so much retro fun!

Best kept secret on South Congress. Free parking. Yes, please. Walking distance to all the great things SoCo offers, yes, please. Highly recommend.
