Guests generally enjoy their stay at this hotel, appreciating its excellent location and friendly staff. However, there are consistent complaints about the condition of the rooms and the lack of amenities.
- Excellent location in the heart of Old Town Alexandria
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Rooms are often described as outdated, dirty, or in disrepair
- Lack of amenities such as breakfast, room service, and working appliances

On a positive note, I received excellent service from all of the staff at the hotel who really went out of their way to help me. Also housekeeping did a very good job cleaning the rooms. It is certainly a great location, but it is a shame to see such a beautiful building being poorly cared for (the hallways weren’t bad but the elevators were in poor condition). It is likely I would only return to the hotel as a last resort.

Windows in this hotel are very old and not sound proof. Had to put a towel on the sill to dampen the noise. Still, heard loud drunk party going folks until 4AM. Then, reserved the hotel cab for 1pm only to find out there was nothing arranged when we showed up at 12:50. They”sold us on a nice Lexus” for travel to BWI, then switched us to an old, dirty Camry. The taxi driver was nice and respectful but we had the rug pulled out from under us at the Alexandrian Hotel. Sorry, but won’t be back.

The location is great, the overall architectural design of the property is great, thanks to the central open air courtyard which affords nice windows and natural light. The staff is very hospitable and friendly. Our room had a VERY noisy heating system that periodically came on throughout the night and that made it hard to go to sleep. Plus there wasn’t a blanket for the bed and so I had to sleep in layers: tights, a camisole and a thermal underwear top plus heavy cotton booties. I couldn’t get warm enough, unless I was up against my husband, but he moves in his sleep so I couldn’t stay in that position for long.

Some of the room smelled stale - can’t open windows and the vents look old, there was plastic taped over a hole in the wall in the corridor. Otherwise, staff were excellent and very helpful.

Great hotel in a wonderful area! The food was delicious in the hotel’s restaurant too!
- 4/5
The parking was easy and secure and the breakfast was excellent. However, there were issues with the room: the heating system failed and it was almost one hour before a technician showed up to get it running. He was great and said he was on dinner break when the call came in. Also, the phone was not working because it was not plugged in directly. Also, the coffee maker did not work. Finally, we were told that we would get a parking discount but that did not happen. The bellmen were fantastic and very helpful as were the folks on the desk. Also, high grades for the cocktail hour. The bourbon drink was fantastic.

The location was amazing. Wonderful old town neighborhood. The restaurant was also great and the room was cool with funky wallpaper and nice toiletries. I’ve already addressed this with the staff but I was in a too floor room all the way at the end of the hall. The room had only one small, high window and the window shade could only be reached by having to climb onto a precarious roller chair, then a glass-topped table. It was frankly unsafe. But it was either do that or deal with a room so bright you could read at night with no lights on. Also — the mattress was obviously old and worn out. It was completely saggy, but when I tried to move Niki to the middle to find firmer ground, I could feel a seam as though it was two mattresses pushed together. Just uncomfortable. Between that, the window and the jet lag, I barely slept for two nights.

I booked this last minute trying to find something to do with our kids for NYE. My husband saw that Old Town Alexandria had a kid friendly event and this hotel was right in the center of it. We got there earlier than our check-in time and thankfully our room was ready, so we got settled in pretty quickly. We took the trolley back and forth from the hotel and did a lot of walking too. The location was very convenient. We had breakfast at the restaurant connected to the hotel. Check out was super easy. A gentleman asked us how our stay was and offered our kids some little prizes (there was a bucket of sunglasses, necklaces, keychains, etc.). Everyone was super friendly. We would definitely come back again. My only complaint was that one elevator was broken, so there were only 2 working elevators.

My wife and I love having our staycations in Old Town, and we love staying at the Alexandria Old Town. The staff was and always is exceptional, plus our room was spotless. We even decided last minute to extend our stay another night, and it was super easy to do that while remaining in our room! There is only one other hotel that we frequent in Old Town, and it is also in the Autograph collection!

I stay in Alexandria often and usually book the Alexandrian. I have watched this hotel slowly go down hill in the last 5 years. The rooms are majorly outdated, Art missing from the walls, the AC leaked all over our room two stays ago. I gave it one more chance this stay and don’t see any reason to keep coming here.

Lovely hotel. Breakfast is NOT free. Dinner was excellent but top dollar. The King Street neighborhood in Old Town is, however, packed with great restaurants (e.g., The Fish Market, Gadsby’s Tavern, many others) so lots of options. 4 blocks east is the Torpedo Factory Arts Center, a must-see.

I have no complaints about the hotel itself but check-ins on 2 days were both horrible. I had made reservations on Expedia for 2 rooms on a Friday for 2 days and another room on Sat for 1 night. The desk clerks were completely incompetent and could not understand. On the second day I had to get Expedia to call them and get it straightened out. If the hotel does not want to work with travel site websites, they should take their hotel off of them. It took 15 minutes to check in the first day and a good 1/2 hour the second day. Then my daughter-in-law went to the garage to charge her electric car - does the charg

Although first impressions of tattered entry rugs, the hotel was welcoming. The staff were friendly and accmmodating, The evening started with a complimentary drink (either sangria or an old fashioned). Being directly on King street , it allowed for easy walking to the waterfront, restaurants and pubs. The free King street trolley was an added bonus. Our room was clean and comfortable

You have to go to the bar area for any type of soda ,water, coffee or tea and it’s a very long Wait.
- 2.5/5
Soda splashed on the walls by the entrance to room, Bobby pins, curlers, rubber bands used for someone's braces or hair, and other trash found on the floor (clearly did not vacuum), some kind of black mold on the wall behind one of the bed boards by the AC unit.

Parking is $40 a day, with in & out. Two comments: the parking garage is very dark and doesn't seem safe, especially for a solo female Also, you can ride the elevators straight to the hotel floors without a key card to access, even from garage. Not great security.

I was shocked to see the state of everything in the room between the bathroom with so much caulking around the bathtubs, the lamp on the hallway almost falling down for the amount of money that they ask for the room I was expecting something way better

Be aware that the elevators only comfortably service half of the hotel. If you are in the other half, plan for a lengthy walk!

Beautiful spot! Unfortunately it was hard to sleep due to thin walls - the hallways were noisy & even the noise from people on the street was enough to keep me away on the fourth floor.

2nd time here. Staff was fantastic perfect location we loved it one thing we think that could improve it was the garden patio area looked like that it was neglected also elevator could use a clean up. Floors need it of a vacuum. But overall we love this hotel.

Very cosy and convenient.

Won't stay anywhere else! Love it here!

Bed wasn’t very comfortable
- 5/5
This is a beautiful and convenient location and the property is well maintained.

Clean room. The timing of housekeeping was questionable. Don't understand the fees after paying for the room and the $40 parking per night is ridiculous.
- 5/5
Great hotel, great service, wonderful dining options in walking distance. Perfect Alexandria getaway.
- 5/5
Floor noise was a little disruptive. We did appreciate the resort fee could be used for the restaurant.
- 5/5
I appreciated the staff accommodating my early arrival. Everyone was kind, and our room was lovely!

Will come back

The staff were amazing and the rooms were very spacious and had a lovely historic feel
- 3/5
Staff was extremely helpful and kind. Property needs a nice scrubbing and a little updating.
- 4/5
The property is close to everything in Old Town. The rooms are generous in size. I’d skip the restaurant if I was going to stay again. And I didn’t use hotel parking because it is overpriced for the area. The hotel is well maintained and clean.
- 4/5
Not crazy about having to pay for internet. It should be included.
- 5/5
Very historical rooms and downtown area
- 3/5
Nice hotel, would stsy again. Only 2 complaints that can change in my next stay: 1) A/C was not working properly and felt cold all night even after technician stopping by, 2) Loud kids in adjacent room.
- 5/5
Very centrally located place to stay in old town
- 5/5
Always a pleasure to stay in the heart of Old Town Alexandria and have the ease of walking everywhere.
- 5/5
The staff were wonderful. The only thing I would say is that it would have been nice to have the hotel bar stay open past 10:00 pm for patrons coming back from a night out.
- 5/5
Great location for strolling through the Old Tpwn.

Great place to stay I’m such cute town!
- 5/5
Very clean, comfortable room nicely decorated although the furniture could use some updating
- 5/5
My only complaint was the pillows. They weren’t up to par for the property.

Great central location. Eat parking and check-in

Great location. Rooms need updating.

Suggestion would be to have more staff working the front desk. There was only one person that we observed working to check in/out guests while we were there. Had to wait 10 minutes to get checked in. staff member was rushing to accommodate everyone. There were guests waiting behind us. Also, I tried calling the front desk from my room telephone on Sunday morning to find out what time was check out and no one answered, tried calling reservations too, no one answered.

It is a nice area to walk
- 3/5
Needs updating. Charges a resort fee but no resort amenities. They want you to spend the fee on breakfast at the next door restaurant with overpriced and low quality food.
- 5/5
Loved the location, pretty lobby nicely decorated and spacious 2 bedroom . Would without a doubt come back. Restaurant attached made great drinks
- 5/5
The price was a little more than other area hotels but so very worth it. The hotel was so much closer to the places we wanted to see. My husband is disabled so walking was less and we were able to regularly just stop back in to our hotel when needed. Staff was super nice and helpful. Loved the complimentary cocktail each evening. I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel was lovely. Our room was wonderful and had a great view of Kings Street below. The front desk staff were incredibly nice and helpful. They went above and beyond to make our stay special.

great location

Had a great time in a fun city. The hotel was clean, comfortable and upscale. The front desk attendants were very friendly and accommodating. Also they have a bar/restaurant insite which offered fine foods, seasonal drinks and top notch service.
- 5/5
The Alexandrian was amazing. Old school feel. Everywhere my wife and I walked we felt safe. Close to the water, food, shopping and entertainment. Will definitely be going back.
- 3/5
All night it sounded as if someone was rolling something on the floor above us. It would wake me from my sleep repeatedly. It did stop eventually. Overall, the hotel is very nice. Our room was large and clean. The shower hot/cold was reversed. No big deal. Convenient location to walk out of the hotel and go shopping.

No internet

room smelled like mold, day of the check out the staff consistently ignored do not disturb sign and knocked on the door for us to check out.
- 2/5
Lost power pools out of order with yellow tape around it fitness center joke everything is old not modern for $300 night it’s a rip off plus they charged $36 night to park when lots nearby charge $10 and a $25 night amenity fee that wasn’t disclosed till check in for what amenities exactly? No pool no fitness center nothing in building besides a restaurant that’s closed Monday night when there’s plenty dining all over area

Parking garage a little scary but hotel was beautiful and staff wonderful’
- 5/5
Hotel was beautiful and clean. We were very comfortable and loved how close we were to everything in old town. We could walk everywhere and even hop on our bikes and go on the Mount Vernon trail for 20 miles. Our Terrace room was perfect for our weekend getaway. Staff was very nice and professional
- 5/5
And our dog was welcome ❤️
- 5/5
Great location and quality for a reasonable price.
- 3/5
Didn’t like the forced $25 daily fee, especially since the restaurant and bar were closed when I decided to use it. Other desk agents were not as friendly as initial agent. Parking was scary. Second floor of basement was dark, piles of construction and dirty. My room did not cool down, so the graciously moved me, but that room was hot, too. Weird smell. It didn’t seem like an Autograph hotel.
- 5/5
Need valet parking and parking lot is dark leading to possible crime issues

I"ve stayed in hotels in Europe and throughout United States. This is one of the best. And the price was very reasonable. I have already recommended this hotel to a friend.
- 2/5
The outside setting was beautiful. The beds were terribly uncomfortable, the room smelled musty, and the room air conditioning did not work well. The parking garage was very difficult to navigate around in and very little lighting and space.
- 4/5
A gang of thugs were blasting music until 2AM outside the hotel. The clerk at the front desk could not care less. We had to call the police. Some clown started slamming his door at 5AM. Then at 8AM a street performer began playing (very badly) the saxophone. This is probably not the norm, but it was our experience.
