Reviews
The hotel is generally well-liked for its quiet and peaceful location, friendly and accommodating staff, and comfortable rooms. However, many guests note that the property is outdated and in need of updates, particularly in the bathrooms and common areas.

Breakfast was laid out beautifully with many choices. Opened door to patio and enjoyed my meal listening to the birds singing and watching the golfers tee off. Peaceful serenity to the max Perhaps some fresh fruit

The location is beautiful: golf course, very quiet. Breakfast was available, but limited. Just a few things to get going. We had breakfast in downtown Aiken which was fantastic!! The room was very spacious. The facility is clean, just dated which was great. Actual metal keys for the rooms! The bed was comfy, but the mattress seemed extra plush from years of service ;)

This is my second stay at this hotel including a trip in 2024. It is a very quiet location and not far from various restaurants, shopping, banking and just about anything else you can think of with a 5-10 minute drive to Whiskey Rd. They are currently doing some renovations to the rooms by removing the carpets and installing wood floors, which have a nice look. As during my trip in 24, the staff is VERY helpful with any questions or information you ask them for. The rooms are cleaned well and they will respond to any issues you may have in the room quickly. The daily continental breakfast does not have many items or variety, but once again, Whiskey road has many breakfast spots. The rooms are well insulated as far as I noticed, very quiet, with golf course scenery on one side and the front of the hotel and pool area on the other. If you are a golfer, it's a good location. If you like cleanliness, peacefulness and easy access to food, shopping and ease of movement. this may be the place you are looking for.

Staff gave us a free upgrade. We had a large room with a great view of the 9th hole of the golf course. The bed was soft. The room furnishings were a bit outdated.

Staff was great, rooms were clean. However, the property has not been upgraded in years so things don’t work, water drips, pipes squeal loudly. Would probably go again, but not at the rate (or anywhere near the rate) we paid.

This hotel is on a country club, and the grounds are well maintained. It was spring and there were lots of azaleas and dogwoods in bloom. The room was attractive and comfortable, a nice change from the usual chain hotels that I stay at. The switch for the desk lamp didn't work, but all of the other lamps worked well. They seem to be doing renovations in some of the rooms, but it didn't detract from my stay. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are available in the lobby 24/7. There are a variety of cookies in the evening. Breakfast is from 7-10 and is in a room with a nice window looking out on the grounds. It is cereal and breads and yogurt. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't quite ready for me at 7, as I needed to get somewhere. There is a restaurant that serves dinner Wednesday to Sunday, but I didn't have an opportunity to dine there. The receptionist that checked me in was very pleasant. I would stay here again if I were visiting the area.

My wife, our 4-year old English Springer Spaniel and i enjoyed three very comfortable and peaceful nights and mornings at the Inn at Houndslake while visiting our son and his family, who live less than 10 minutes from the Inn, for a post-Christmas weekend. Perfect location for us because of proximity and we also greatly appreciated the quietness and secluded location of the Inn, in the middle of a peaceful golf community. The room was spacious and comfortable, and we were given a room "downstairs" (there are 3 levels) which gave us easy access to take our dog out the back door and into lots and lots of areas for us to roam. The pet fee was $50 for the entire stay, which was very reasonable. The continental breakfast was very nice - assortment of yogurts, breads, cereal, juice, coffee, bananas, etc. Spacious and quiet breakfast area. The front desk and housekeeping staff were very cordial and welcoming. We will be making the Inn our regular lodging place for future visits. The bathroom was spacious and everything was functional, but the fixtures could use some updating.

This is an older hotel inside a country club. The setting is quiet and pretty. The rooms are dated but serviceable. The pool is not part of the hotel but you are allowed to use it. It could use some upkeep but is a big lap pool which is nice.

The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Every person we interacted with was friendly and helpful. They even provided a few items we had forgotten at home, which made a big difference. Our room was spotless, and the beds were extremely comfortable. In the evenings, our kids especially loved the fresh-baked cookies and hot chocolate—it was such a thoughtful touch! The pool was also a huge hit with the whole family. We’ll definitely be returning to The Inn at Houndslake for future Nationals events. Highly recommend!

Convenient to USC Aiken, comfortable and affordable. Very dated decor, updates needed to the older quilts and pillows. Hard to locate the inn at night based on the directions. We ended up in another location on site at a restaurant and the staff said that happens often when people are trying to find the inn parking lot. Multiple parking lot lights were out or flickering, so the mood was not very welcoming or clear for a night time arrival.

The staff was wonderful. Cheerful and helpful when our plans changed. The property was very dated and in need of a serious refurbishment. Cracked tile in the bathroom, a screeching vent fan in the bathroom, a “Continental breakfast” that was woefully insufficient. The emptied outdoor pool filled with leaves and rainwater was depressing.

The Inn needs better signage to direct you to the building There is NO lighting in the parking lot and it is pitch dark. It is dangerous and almost impossible to walk your pet, you have to have a flashlight and that is dangerous because of the different elevations. The carpet was very dirty in our room

Cute little hideaway. Loved seeing deer on the golf course outside my window when I woke up. It’s an older place with older decor, nostalgic but is so clean, quiet and comfortable. Wi-Fi was very good, TV channel selection good, mini fridge in the room. All the basics of being at home. Staff is very friendly and attentive! 2-3 miles drive away from the ‘city’ so it’s very peaceful outside. Outside Pool and hot tub all well-maintained. Great little spot!

The Inn at Houndslake is an older property and probably could benefit from a “freshening” but that didn’t really make a difference in how nice my stay was there. We paid a fortune to stay at The Greenbrier in WVa and it too is in need of a facelift. The front desk gentleman could have not been any more accommodating and welcoming at the Inn at Houndslake. I was traveling alone for an equestrian event and felt extremely safe. My room was clean and fresh. And I slept the best I ever had in my bed there, only surpassed by the beds at the Pinehurst Inn. I will definitely be staying again thee next time I’m in Aiken.

Lovely place. We enjoyed our stay here and love the fact that they keep it original and a home style feel. Everyone was courteous and warm. The place was clean and comfy. I only have a few suggestions. Outside paint (update) specify dog potty area. Add signage where hotel is and what buildings are as you’re driving or walking. We thought the pub building was hotel check in. Clean up tennis court closest to hotel or if not remove it and add a small dog park area. Heat pool and jacuzzi from April onward to winter time. Add hot breakfast items (pancakes/waffles/eggs/sausage or bacon/quiche/potatoes) alongside dry cereal/ breads and fruit. This place could be so much more with a small amount of work added. Utilize the pub kitchen for the hotel breakfast and baked items in the evening such as cookies or brownies etc. Promote the hotel at horse and golfing events. Do a weekend Groupon package. Promote the golf course to buisness groups in and out of town for a retreat. Use a room or area of hotel to bring in a masseuse and link them with the hotel if someone wants to book a mobil massage. Play quiet music in lobby to make it a bit more inviting and not so stark quiet where we feel like we must whisper when checking in later then 9pm. I love the place so so much and will be back, but we had to tip toe when checking in because it was so quiet not to disturb hotel guests and didn’t know if we could talk at all. Thats it just a few tips to help out and we want this place to remain open

Rather than stay near the interstate while working in Augusta, I thought I’d try something different and so I stayed at the Inn at Houndslake in Aiken SC. This classic hotel - about 30 minutes drive from downtown Augusta - is located inside a golf/country club. I didn’t use or visit the included amenities - pool, tennis, golf, clubhouse - since I was just there overnight but the hotel/room was clean, comfortable and above all, ultra quiet. I would stay here again and would consider having a corporate retreat here - I think they have 30 guest rooms and a meeting room.

This property was very clean and on beautiful grounds. The staff was very nice and professional and made sure that we were taken care of for our whole stay. 10/10 would recommend staying here any time I am in the area. And you can't beat that for the price!

Loved the old style charm of this place as well as the quiet. Close enough to do all the things in the city while tucked out away from it for downtime. Staff was super friendly and helpful (the kids loved the cookies!) Will definitely stay again!

It was a very clean and beautiful hotel. It was an older hotel, like normal keys and a phone in the bathroom. So some outdated stuff but very pretty and well kept. Super convenient to stay at if visiting Akien.

We traveled to the area for a horse show and this place was suggested by a friend who stayed last year during same show. She was right! Our stay was wonderful!

Likes the setting and the courteous staff. Didn't like limited breakfast choices, no microwave in room, display light on upper wall A/C unit bright at night, no prime cable channels, very unmanageable closet sliding door, minimum counter space.

Super quiet and private. Large room with king size bed and good AC. Carpets and curtains and bed spreads from the 1980s. The bed was also dated: springs were like a tired trampoline with a ridge in the middle. The lights on the bedside tables are controlled by a switch in the entrance…why? Nice value overall. Would stay again for sure

Check in was easy and I felt welcomed. The room was spacious, clean and quiet. The continental breakfast started the day off right. I would recommend staying there without hesitation.

Quiet, clean, friendly nice golf course views, nice breakfast room, but very dated. Needs a modern facelift then it would be a perfect place to stay.

The Inn T Houndslake is the best hotel I have ever stayed at. It is dated, but honestly it’s part of the charm. It’s like staying at your grandparents house. The owner and all of the staff were absolutely amazing. I will be staying here next time I am in Aiken. It is away from the hustle and bustle, but still close to things. It was great!!

Very quiet and peaceful. Loved listening to the birds in the morning. Beds were really comfortable as well. Just a great atmosphere. We will definitely be back (this was our honeymoon and we’re very happy to have stayed here).

The front desk staff is very friendly and efficient. The room is spacious, clean and comfortable with a big window overlooking beautiful grounds. Bed was very comfortable. Coffee and tea were available in morning and evening. My only complaint would be minor: wish they provided real milk/cream for coffee instead of inedible fake creamer but that would be truly nit picking for a very gracious stay.

The ownership does a nice job of creating a comfortable, friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Our room was fine and reasonably priced. During my next stay, I hope to play a round of golf.

We only stayed one night but it was a really pleasant stay. The Inn is a little older but it was clean and the staff were excellent! We absolutely will be staying again when we come back through next year!

This place has seen it's better days, but they still remember hospitality. For a golf course at the end of April, it was very quiet. The brekfast, limited to cold items, was solid and nourishing. I would love to go back when the pool is open.
